Moving together - these words probably best describe the last 3 weeks. We are back - thanks to you - at the 1TP5Heart people and fur hearts in the flood area. After unloading the box elements at Dennis Beyers in Rheinbach, we travelled back to the wonderful open stable community in Erftstadt Bliesheim - with the building materials and pasture fencing equipment so that the horses could safely move back into their homes. Despite their difficult times and sometimes physical limitations, the joy of reunion is great and it feels like a heartfelt connection when you arrive back there. I am thrilled and amazed to see what has already been restored and that people can imagine putting horses here again. I don't know where these people get their strength from after all the catastrophe to do such great things for their horses. That is probably the biggest motivation. The open stable community consists of several open stables in the area and Meikel & Kevin also lost their little horse paradise a few metres away (right by the river).
There is still a dead goat and a sheep lying under heavy fallen trees and material. The sight and the idea of what happened to these animals is almost unbearable (not to mention the odours.) Claudia Rosner and her husband have provided just the right thing - a chainsaw - so that the dead animals can finally "go" with dignity. In the pictures you can also see the railway sleeper on the fence. When you see this and know how heavy these railway sleepers are, then you can perhaps also imagine the force of the mass of water that arrived there.
Meikel and Kevin have not only lost their horse paradise, but also their lovingly planted vegetable and fruit gardens. The bird nesting sites and bee meadows are no longer recognisable. You can already see how the fruit trees have been affected by the contaminated water. It is doubtful when nature will recover here. However, they are not giving up and are also working tirelessly to restore their horses' home. When you see all this, I am humbled and touched by so much love for their animals = family members. Someone said: "My animal is family and you give everything for it!" - You can see that here - every day! People who go beyond their limits, who hardly have any strength left because they have lost everything not only on the farm but also at home - they still have to do their job and take care of it all. Some still have no electricity and no running water
.... Nevertheless, they continue... Perhaps you can now understand why it was more than difficult for me to keep my composure when these people handed me a beautiful flower arrangement and chocolates with a card - as a thank you to ALL of you who support and accompany them ... Actually, I wanted to cry with emotion ...(I'm crying as I write these lines)... There is a special place for the flowers with the Maraun family in their beautiful natural paradise in front of the Arguk environmental laboratory - they also offer long-term support with soil samples so that the horses don't end up on contaminated soil. We will enjoy the chocolate together and the card will have a special place on my desk so that it accompanies me every day. There is still a lot to do and a long way to go, but together with you we will continue to accompany such great people and animals.
