"It was cosy in the candle workshop, where the children were able to make their own candles with wax and candle pens.
Firstly, the wax plates were scrutinised: "It looks and feels like cheese!" Handling the candle sticks is a bit tricky and requires patience: the colour dries slowly and you have to carefully look where you can still touch the candle after painting.
Working with decorating wax and candle sticks therefore requires precision and dexterity, which promotes children's fine motor skills.
They painted, sprinkled, cut out motifs and pressed them onto the candles, the ideas just bubbled over.
Whether colourful patterns, Christmas trees, stars or other motifs - each candle was unique. The question of who to give the candle to was also an important topic: "I'm making this for Grandad, he likes candles."
After the creative part, some of the children wanted to perform a dance they had rehearsed at school, and anyone who wanted to could join in.
A beautiful end to a radiant afternoon full of light and joy.
The children proudly went home with their home-made candles and a happy smile.
Thank you very much, dear Sarah.
