A doctor of biology guided us through various stations of the farm and explained exciting details about ostriches. Did you know that ostriches are the largest living birds in the world and can grow up to 2.8 metres tall? Their powerful legs enable them to reach speeds of up to 70 km/h, making them the fastest running birds. That they only have two toes and can therefore run faster? A single stride of a running ostrich can be up to 5 metres. Ostriches also have the largest eyes of all land animals, with a diameter of around 5 cm, which helps them to recognise predators at an early stage. Their eggs weigh up to 1.4 kilograms and are the largest bird eggs in the world. That the young already have the quills for adult plumage and are therefore almost spiky?
The tour concluded with a leisurely ride on the Bimmelbahn, which gave visitors a comprehensive view of the farm and its inhabitants. Afterwards, all participants met up with the Easter Bunny and his wife on the Easter meadow. There, the Easter Bunny surprised us with small gifts for young and old.
Afterwards, we all sat together again over coffee, hot chocolate and cake and enjoyed a little break in a convivial atmosphere, which made for a successful end to the day.

The reactions of the participants were varied: while the children wavered between curiosity and a certain awe of the imposing ostriches, the adults were above all fascinated and enthusiastic about the exciting insights into the lives of these extraordinary animals. An all-round successful day of education, entertainment and enjoyment." - Bianca Ferber
