After the rescue: The foal ABC - the important start in life

The little ones have to learn to wear the halter and to take it off again. This sounds obvious, but it is a big task, especially for foals that have already had negative experiences. They need to be gently accustomed to allowing touch all over their body, especially on their legs and hooves - their most important "survival tools". Horses are flight animals and their first impulse in the event of danger is to move their legs and get out of here! It takes a lot of time, patience and sensitivity to give them security and get them used to humans.
Understanding boundaries is also part of the foal ABC: they learn that a human is not an obstacle to breaking through and thus develop the important respect for the human "space zone". These are all important steps towards becoming reliable, relaxed and safe partners later on.
Our foster carers do all this day after day with great dedication and patience - in addition to medical care and food costs, the time invested is also a decisive factor that should not be underestimated when dealing with animals in need.
