"Felting the dragon's eye - a creative, symbolic process that combines body, mind and emotions. Under the guidance of Barbara Henschke from the Kunterbude
The starting point was a large marble as the inner core - symbolising the essential and the hidden. Coloured layers of felt were placed around it, soaked in warm soapy water and matted by applying pressure. This physically tangible process required perseverance, dedication and mindfulness and symbolised purification and transformation.
The marble stands for the self, the inner eye. The layers of felt reflect experiences, protective mechanisms and emotions. Pressure and friction symbolise life challenges that enable development. Cutting open the marble at the end is an act of self-revelation - the visualisation of inner essence.
The haptically intensive felting requires active participation and strengthens self-awareness as well as the experience of influence and control. The resulting ball becomes a tangible symbol of what can be created through effort and patience.
The finished dragon's eye is more than just an object - it is a mirror and an invitation to reflect on your own "inner eye", your personal perspective and essence. In art therapy, this process can be used to work on topics such as self-protection, transformation, inner strength and visibility." - Natalie Reuscher
