At the Bad Neuenahr painting circus, children experienced a special self-defence training course led by Lion training Katja Blumenthal. The aim was to prepare the children for to strengthen everyday life - with self-confidence, clear body language and the courage to assert yourself.
Some of the children were unsure at first, but they quickly developed confidence through careful instruction, clear exercises and plenty of room for questions. With games, team spirit and a pinch of lion courage, inhibitions were broken down and initial successes celebrated.
There was a particular focus on self-assertion: the children learnt to recognise unpleasant situations, set boundaries and clearly say "Stop!" with their voice and posture. They also practised shouting loudly for help - an important skill for gaining attention in stressful situations and approaching adults in a targeted manner.
In addition to simple self-defence techniques - such as freeing oneself from holds - the main focus was on positioning oneself safely and clearly. Those who are self-confident are less likely to get into danger.
One moving moment was the development of a child who initially found it difficult to engage with the training. In the end, he managed to free himself from a hold - and proudly showed this to his parents.
Katja Blumethal led the course with great empathy. Each child was given enough space to gather themselves if they were unsure and to re-enter the course in a self-determined manner. This respectful atmosphere was crucial for the active and joyful participation of all the children.
