Then came the exciting moment: the colourful surfaces were covered with black acrylic paint - a bold step, as the previously lovingly painted areas disappeared under the dark layer. But that was exactly where the magic lay: after drying, the children were able to draw lines, patterns and figures in the black surface with a scratching tool - and suddenly the hidden colours shone out from underneath!
Scratching became an experience: amazement, joy, surprise - a little bit of magic. The children were enthusiastic, laughed, experimented and developed their own ideas. Working the colours out of the darkness also has something symbolic about it - it's like making something visible that was previously hidden. And best of all, the children not only had fun, but were also proud. Because they created something that they otherwise only knew as a finished product - and all by their own hand. The enthusiasm was so great that a sequel is guaranteed!" - Sarah Uessem
