Sarah Uessem and Silke Janzen spent a special afternoon with the children at the Ahrweiler painting circus: together they set off on a journey of discovery.I went on an imaginative journey into the world of dreams. This resulted in beautiful, colourful dreamcatchers - small works of art with great meaning.
"After a brief introduction, we got straight down to business: fabric ribbons were wound, knots were tied and decorated with beads, feathers and little treasures. The children were free to choose their favourite colours and materials - creating very personal dreamcatchers that contain a piece of each child.
"I did that!" - this sentence was often heard, full of pride and joy. Designing dreamcatchers encouraged creativity, skill and confidence in their own imagination. The children learnt that they can create something that gives them security - especially if they firmly believe in it. After all, a homemade dreamcatcher is more than just a craft project: it becomes a night-time companion and protector.
Finally, the creativity bubbled over once again: imaginative headdresses were created from the remaining fabric ribbons and feathers - inspired by Native American tradition. The children were completely captivated by the dreamcatcher theme!"
