The children had great fun crafting and handled the delicate material with great care. Simple basic shapes were turned into houses, churches and gardens, lovingly decorated with stickers and glitter stones to make them really colourful!
It was particularly lovely to see how the children made up their own stories about their lanterns: there were houses connected by a slide, a wishing tree where whatever you wish for will grow, and if you look closely, you might even spot a little house ghost.
The craft activity sparked the children's imagination and showed how beneficial creative activities can be: they promote concentration, strengthen fine motor skills, stimulate the imagination and create space for new ideas. The children supported each other, laughed together and experienced how wonderful it is to create something with their own hands. At the same time, an important tradition was upheld: who was St. Martin and why do we celebrate him? In this way, creative design is combined with the experience of community and living tradition.
We are delighted that your lanterns will make Ahrweiler even more colourful and vibrant!“
