The Christmas season is now behind us - but the fond memories of creative moments spent together still resonate. In the ZuvAHRsicht and in the painting circus Ahrweiler, the festive mood was clearly palpable: together we created Christmas figures from casting powder. For some, the material was familiar, for others it was a new and exciting experience. First, everyone chose their favourite shapes from a variety of silicone moulds. Then the mixing began: finding the right consistency, not too liquid and not too solid. Step by step, the mixture was slowly poured in, patiently distributed and small bubbles avoided. Each individual step demanded calm and attention, which created a feeling of slowing down.
After the drying time came the best moment: removing the figures. Each time, it is a small moment of amazement when the finished mould becomes visible. Most of them remained plain white, others were later to be painted in bright colours. The sensory experience of doing it yourself was particularly impressive: feeling the smooth, cool surface of the finished figures, the small weight in your hands - a moment of closeness to the material that drew your attention completely into the here and now and made the joy of your own work tangible. It was an afternoon full of creativity, community and joy.
One participant said: „Being creative is so good for me, but I've been kind of blocked since the flood - so it's nice that we meet here and do it together!“ A sentence that wonderfully describes the importance of such meetings and touched us all. -Sarah Uessem and Karl Gailer
