At the turn of the year 2025/2026, according to TASSO e.V. A frightening 376 dogs escaped - a clear sign of how much the loud bangs and flashes of light frighten our four-legged friends.
Fortunately, many were brought home again, but the difference to everyday life is enormous:
Cats were also affected: 507 missing persons were reported on these two days, i.e. around 254 per day.
According to TASSO, the number here remains comparatively stable, as there are usually fewer cats out and about in winter - many stay indoors for protection, and outdoor cats are often only reported missing days later.
These figures are not just statistics - they represent fear, panic and immeasurable stress for countless animals.
As an alliance partner of Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), we support the joint initiative for a firecracker-free New Year's Eve.
Consideration and compassion should be louder than any firecracker on these days.
