„What happens when a child already stands out at the age of five due to their strong independence and solution-orientation?
This is a challenge for many adults. This is because self-determination often does not match the expectation that rules will be followed without question. This leads to conflicts, outbursts of anger - and often the advice to have the child tested for ADHD.
An insecure mother came to me with these worries.
When working with the horse, however, a completely different picture emerged: a child with above-average comprehension skills, flexible thinking and high motivation. He approached the horse with great curiosity, set up a course on his own and completed it with almost no guidance - and that at the first contact and at the age of just five.
The central question remains:
How can self-determined children be helped to stick to boundaries in important - especially dangerous - situations that cannot be explained immediately?
A clear, consistent „Stop! Stop!“ can help you to pause for a moment. However, the subsequent explanation is crucial. Because this child wants to understand and this is the only way to avoid frustration and accept important rules.
I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with him and see many valuable qualities in him that - with the right support - can give him a stable and strong future.“ - Heike Holtz
Thank you very much, dear Heike.
