Wild bees and other important pollinators need us!

There are over 600 species of wild bees in Germany. Their busy buzzing on a summer's day delights us all. Wild bees are busy flower visitors. This is extremely important. We depend on wild bees and other insects to pollinate our plants. Unfortunately, up to around 37% are endangered. Fortuna Hilft e.V. therefore supports the "Let it live" initiative. You can create a habitat in your garden for (wild) bees and other important pollinators.

"You don't have to be a bee expert to do something about insect mortality. It's so easy to provide a colourful buffet for bees and bumblebees in your own garden/balcony: Even kitchen herbs offer delicious pollen and nectar as a meal. I am often asked which plants are bee-friendly. Many people want to help, but don't know how. We wanted to help with this campaign," adds Neumann-Franz. Because not everything that looks beautiful is also good for insects, examples of this are geraniums, dahlias and forsythia. We have compiled examples so that not everyone has to work their way through all the pages, because feasts for the eyes can also be feasts for bees."

What do we do?

We support the project of "Let it live" to set up nectar refuelling stations for wild bees in your own garden or front garden. The necessary plants and soil are procured from local retailers such as Gärtnerei Wershofen and Pesto Humus. The planting packs, as well as the soil, are handed out with planting plans so that you can create a paradise for humans and animals on one square metre of garden.

You can choose from a planting package of perennials or herbs.

Who can take part?

Flood victims from the Ahrweiler district with their own garden/front garden are welcome to contact us by e-mail. Delivery is limited to one plant package per address.

The Gärtnerei Wershofen is also preparing illustrative plant examples that can then be viewed.

If the plant packages are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation by email with your personal collection date there.

The first edition recently took place at the Wershofen nursery

"Recently, the first herbs and perennials. Ragna Neumann has put together an all-round carefree package. The wild bees enjoyed the herb and perennial packs as soon as they were handed out. Everyone received plants, suitable soil and a planting plan, so that everyone has the opportunity to easily create a wonderful nectar centre for wild bees. The children were also educated once again and it was wonderful to see how much they had already learnt about this at school. The children were already looking forward to working in the garden with mum or dad. The adults were also pleased with the important information they were given about plants, soil and wild bees.
But we also had many impressions of the Wershofen nursery; it was also like great aromatherapy for us (we couldn't resist buying something for our garden there either). If you would like to do something for the wild bees yourself, the Wershofen nursery has the right plants and planting plans in stock. Anyone who would like to support our project is cordially invited to make a donation so that we can provide even more nectar filling stations in the Ahr valley." - Bianca Ferber, Malzirkus Ahrweiler
