SAM

more about Sam's story

The Schauff family reports on their terrible experiences and the rescue of their animals - First you lose your son and then the flood disaster came and took all the memories with it. ...😔 The vet S. Jendrysek in Erftstadt contacted me with an emergency that touched me deeply. Words can hardly describe what the affected family and their 🐶🐱fur hearts experienced as a result of the flood disaster. When the animals are the only support.... After the family had already suffered an almost unbearable loss before the flood disaster and lost their son, it is hard to imagine how this is even possible to bear now.... They share their experiences with us here... HERE AT YOUTUBE

Sam, born 9 January 2017, is a cross between a French and English bulldog and came to Schauffs in spring 2017. After successfully overcoming puberty, he developed into a lovable buddy. Unfortunately, it turned out that he also carries the usual breed problems in his genetics, as he has deformed thoracic vertebrae and corresponding disc problems. A food intolerance made it necessary to put him on a hypoallergenic diet. Mrs Schauff cooks him a diet based on horse meat, and he also gets hypoallergenic dry food (Royal canin anallergenic/hypoallergenic). In 2019, he also suffered a (road) accident, which led to a certain degree of instability in the lumbar spine/lumbosacral area. I didn't treat him acutely after the accident, so I don't have access to the exact diagnoses. As far as I know, he was treated symptomatically and no CT/MRI was carried out. Since then, Sam has always needed support in the form of physiotherapy, muscle building and sometimes pain treatment.

Kimba, a red and white tomcat, came to the Schauffs at the end of 2012 as a young cat. If I remember correctly, he ran into them and managed to assert himself next to the very territorial old cat who was still alive at the time. Stubbornness wins the day. Schauffs accepted him and made him their "house cat" in all respects. A free-range cat before the Lord, who always liked to get involved in "territorial politics". Their search for a new home was now also focussed on ensuring that Kimba has a suitable free-range area again.

Finn & Kaja

more about Finn & Kaja

The pet owners and the animals from Erftstadt were surprised and swept away by the floods. Miraculously, they survived and now need your support. HERE on YOUTUBE

Finn, Kangal, born on 28.01.2016

He comes from a scrap yard where he lived in a wonderful pack until he was handed in.
The friendly owners breed the Kangal breed.
We saw the litter for the first time when they were 3 days old. Finn's mum let me see her puppies, but of course she always kept an eye on me.
After 12 long weeks of visiting the little ones every week, we were finally allowed to take Finn home with us.
Finn is a very smart and loving dog.
He is totally cuddly and loves children more than anything.
Unfortunately, Finn was diagnosed with hypothyroidism on 24.04.2021. Fortunately, we were able to get this under control with the medication Forthyron flavour 400. However, he will probably have to continue taking this medication for the rest of his life. That's 3 tablets a day. Unfortunately, Finn is also very susceptible to struvite stones and is therefore also given vet concept's "low mineral" food.
Despite everything, Finn is a very bright and totally great dog. He always makes Meikel and me laugh. Even if we sometimes think that we'll soon have more than one Kangal because of his 365-day coat.
We affectionately call him Finni or Finni Winni. The looks on people's faces when they meet us are priceless because they are expecting a little dog.
The best and favourite Kangal ever 💖

Kaja, German shepherd husky mix, born on 01.03.2012
Kaja comes from Croatia. Kaja was found by an animal welfare organisation. She was tied to a tree and abandoned. She was 4 months old when she came to us. It was love at first sight. Kaja is and will always be our spoilt little princess. Kaja loves all the animals in the world. She gets along with everything and everyone. When Kaja came to us, she was exactly the same age as my sister's daughter. The two of them lay together on the play mat and slept together. They are still inseparable today.
When Kaja was about 1.5 years old, she was diagnosed with HD. Fortunately, this has not yet caused any problems. Although this could soon change as she gets older. She is no longer the youngest, but still wants to be everywhere. She also still has Finn very well under control. She has not yet relinquished her position as boss. The big Kangal still submits to her today.
Kaja is affectionately called Püppi for the most part.
Kaja is a dog of the heart. She would open the door to any burglar so that the noise stops and she can continue sleeping in peace.
Our advantage is that we still have the attentive watchdog Finn 🤣
Kaja is simply the best dog in the world 😍💖

Siberia

more about Sibiria's history

The pet owners and the animals from Erftstadt were surprised and swept away by the floods. Miraculously, they survived and now need your support. HERE on YOUTUBE

Siberia was born in Erftstadt and is an ex galloper. She ran quite successfully. She was taken out of racing due to a fissure. When we took her on, she was very insecure. She bit and kicked. We first built up her confidence through ground work. It was only after about 3/4 of a year that our bond was strong enough for us to slowly start riding her. She now goes out on her own with her rider without any problems. She has now become a calm and sociable mare. But she is and remains a little diva. Her unique character makes her a very special horse with lots of rough edges. You have to learn to love them. There are always new challenges, which we work on with a lot of love. Siri is anything but an 08 15 horse. You simply have to love her.

Mäxchen

more about Mäxchen

The pet owners and the animals from Erftstadt were surprised and swept away by the floods. Miraculously, they survived and now need your support. HERE on YOUTUBE

Mäxchen is our little hunk of peace and quiet. Our rock in the surf, our cuddle ball. We got him from a not-so-great stables. His hooves were miserable, he had exema and was quite lonely. He always wants to be everywhere. Mäxchen is very eager to learn and still wants to work. He doesn't like to think about retirement at all. He would do almost anything for a treat. His character is that of a cold-blooded horse that is too small. He is the first pony that I think would eat currywurst with chips if you served it to him. He loves riding from the ground, ground work and work on the longe and double lunge. Going for a walk is daft because there's no action. But after work, he demands his cuddle time and his work reward as a matter of course.
He doesn't like riding at all. No matter how big the rider or child is. So he doesn't get ridden. He's simply the best pony we've ever seen 🥰

Gentle giants

more about Gnadenhof

The six big furry hearts are at the farm of mercy and can finally enjoy their lives after being rescued from the slaughterhouse. Life has left its mark on their health. Heart and lung diseases, arthrosis and allergies are the long-term consequences. The gentle giants survived the flood, but are now suffering more and more from their existing ailments.

Affected horse owners from the flood in Erftstadt report

My encounters with the people and furry hearts in the flooded areas have been with me for a long time.... The conversations, the many impressions and despite this indescribable catastrophe, you meet open hearts. Dear ones, a very special honour and with the greatest humility I thank the people for sharing their experiences with you and talking to us on camera. (Unfortunately, the sound quality is a bit low. I was not prepared for this and very grateful that the experiences were shared at all so that you could be part of them.
