Horse rescue NRW

It was a mission that shook us all.
20 horses - including foals, old mares in foal and many emaciated ones,
weakened animals - suddenly found themselves without supplies.
The previous owner had died unexpectedly. What was left behind were catastrophic conditions:
Not enough food, no care - the animals were left to fend for themselves in completely dirty stables.

Thanks to great support, we were able to act quickly:
Within a very short time, helpers and vets were on site and
Specialised care centres have taken in the horses.
A foal was born during the rescue - a small miracle in the midst of the chaos!
Initial medical treatment was initiated.

We managed that together at the beginning:

- Emergency feed and hay delivered
- Worming treatments administered
- Foal starter kit organised
- First veterinary treatments carried out
- Fence material and power supply secured
- Medication and anabolic agents provided
- most of the horses at our and a private foster home have received dental care

Update on the foster homes

After we were able to successfully realise the rescue of 20 horses, numerous discussions followed with the estate administrator,
to regulate the future of animals in the long term.

The horses were allocated to two private foster homes and a Fortuna hilft foster home, where they are housed and cared for. Since the beginning of September, the two private foster homes have been independently responsible for the care of the horses, as there is a desire to take them on permanently.

Our "Fortuna hilft" foster home is currently home to 2 mares with foals and 2 yearlings. We visited our foster home again yesterday and are delighted that all the horses are doing really well. Also and above all thanks to the great work of Heike and Rebecca.

We need further support

The running costs at our internal care centre, where there are currently still 6 horses, are enormous.
Further medical measures and food and we urgently need support!
